The Chiasson Childrens' Park
Steve Chiasson was a star hockey player whose thirteen year NHL career included playing with the Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes ended after his untimely death in 1999. Steve’s widow, Susan, commissioned a memorial to him in the form of a park, she commissioned portraits of their children playing in a natural environment with the spirit of Steve, in the form of a bronze bear and raven, stands guard beside the pond protecting the children.
Located in Peterborough, Ontario they Susan lived, she envisioned a place where children could “dream their dreams”.
Using bronze, stone, water and interlocking blocks three works were incorporated around a pond. A bronze young hockey player heads for the rink and two young bronze children are launching a boat into the pond, complete with frog sailors.
